PROGRAMME

Can I be a Cultural Leader?

OBJECTIVE

This one day intensive workshop provides young leaders with practical skills, strategic vision and intellectual perspectives to help shape the local cultural landscape.

HIGHLIGHTS

You will learn about cultural leadership through group activities, discussion and reflection. You will meet both international and local cultural leaders from different performing arts and explore the challenges faced by artists and arts administrators.

SPEAKERS

Fearghus O'Conchúir (Dance)
Independent Choreographer and Dance Artist

Fearghus O'Conchúir is a choreographer and dance artist whose film and live performances invite audiences and artists to build communities together. He is Dance Curator at Firkin Crane and currently Trustee of the BBC Performing Arts Fund and of Dance Digital. He is a former board member of Dance Ireland, Project Arts Centre and of Create.

Fearghus was the first Ireland Fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme and continues to contribute to the programme as a facilitator, coach and speaker. www.fearghus.net

Paul Tam (譚兆民)
The Hong Kong Ballet, Executive Director

Mr Paul Tam is currently Executive Director at the Hong Kong Ballet. Previously, he was General Manager at the Hong Kong International Literary Festival, which celebrates creative writing in English and emphasizes writing with an Asian connection through its exciting array of events and activities. Prior to the Festival, he was Director of Marketing at the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the largest performing arts group in Hong Kong with an annual audience of over 100,000.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Piano Performance and Composition, as well as an MBA in Arts Administration from York University, Canada. He was a Vilar Fellow at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (2003-2004), and a member of the Cultural Leadership Academy (University of Hong Kong).

Prof. Daniel K L Chua
Director of the ACLP, HKU and Head of the School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts

Before joining Hong Kong University as the Head of the School of Humanities, Daniel K. L. Chua, was a fellow and the Director of Studies at St John's College, Cambridge, and later Professor of Music Theory and Analysis at King's College London. He was a Henry Fellow at Harvard and is the recipient of the 2004 Royal Musical Association's Dent Medal. He has written widely on music, from Monteverdi to Stravinsky; his publications include The 'Galitzin' Quartets of Beethoven (Princeton, 1994) and Absolute Music and the Construction of Meaning (Cambridge, 1999).

WHO CAN APPLY?

Undergraduate students currently studying year 1 and year 2 in Hong Kong who are interested in developing their cultural leadership skills.
